The Organized Wedding Consultant Online Help: The Most Important Things to Know

The #1 Thing to Know: The Basic Layout

Clicking the menu on the left gets you to all of the software's main areas. The part of the menu in light blue (from “Business Docs” through “Client Notes”) contains information that is all related to one specific client - the client whose name appears in yellow at the top of the light blue section. To change clients, just click the name in yellow and select a different client from the menu. The parts of the menu outside the light blue contain information that applies to multiple clients (like “Clients & Events”) or applies to the program as a whole (like “Professional Setup”). The information in these areas stays the same even when you change between clients.

Each item in the left-hand menu (like “Task List”) is called a section. When you click a section name, you’ll often see several other items appear below it in the menu, like “By Date” and “By Category” under “Task List”. These items within a section are called views.

#2 Read the “Quick Start” Tips

As you click the different areas in the menu on the left, you’ll sometimes see a few lines of text labeled “Quick Start” at the top of the main screen. We know that a lot of the help that’s been written in this world is completely useless and says things like, “To edit, click the edit button”. The “Quick Start” help isn’t like that. It’s usually very short - only a few lines - and it tells you what you really need to know, right then, to use the part of the program that you’re looking at. Read these tips, and getting what you want from the program will be a lot faster and easier.

#3 Double-click the Lists

As you move from area to area in the software, often the main part of the screen will contain some kind of list: a list of households in the address book, a list of vendors, a list of changes for envelopes, etc. Although these lists are useful by themselves, they are often just the tip of the iceberg. They are able to display some of the information about each of the things in the list (be they households, vendors, or what have you), but there is often much richer information available, and more useful things the program can do with that information. Double-click an item in the list, and you’ll frequently see a new window that gives you full access to the information and the things you can do with it.
