Example Wedding Planning Checklist
2 to 3 months before the wedding:
If you're using a calligrapher, print out the guest list and deliver it and the envelopes to the calligrapher. |
If you're not using a calligrapher, start addressing the invitations (and announcements, if you have them). |
Shop for and buy the wedding rings. |
Bride: Confirm the delivery date for your gown (or buy it, if you haven't yet) and schedule your fittings. |
Ask your officiant if he/she has any restrictions on photos during the ceremony or at the wedding site. |
Bride: If you don't already, take time to eat right and exercise to help you look and feel your best. |
Groom: If you don't already, take time to eat right and exercise to help you look and feel your best. |
Bride: If you want to try any new beauty treatments (such as self-tanners, facials, bleaching your teeth, etc.), try them now to make sure they don't cause any bad reactions (allergies or skin discoloration). |
Bride: Buy any special lingerie your gown requires. |
Bride: Talk to your maid of honor if she is planning a shower or other party for you. |
Groom: Talk to your best man if he is planning a party for you. |
Bride and Groom: If someone is planning a party for you and asks for a guest list, give it to them early enough for them to send invitations. |
If you need a photo for a wedding announcement that will be published in a newspaper before the regular wedding photos are ready, arrange to have the photo taken ahead of time. |
If you plan to have formal wedding photos taken the day of the wedding, decide whether to take them before or after the ceremony. |
Take a completed invitation to the post office to weigh it and buy the stamps you need. |
Groom: Get any accessories you want to wear, such as cufflinks, shoes, handkerchief, shirt stays (they keep your shirt tucked in), suspenders, etc. |
Send the wedding rings to be engraved, if you want. |
Assemble the invitations after the envelopes are addressed. |
Bride: Buy your shoes, so that you can take them with you if you have dress fittings. |
Bride and Groom: Decide whether to change your names and what to change them to. |
Find out whether you can (or should) provide children's meals. |
If you're writing your own ceremony, finish the first draft of the ceremony, including the vows. |
Mail the invitations. |
